Joseph Penrod is our 7-year old son who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy two years ago. DMD is a progressive, degenerative muscle disease. There is no cure.
Since his diagnosis, our family, friends and an army of volunteers have been working to fund research, to raise awareness of the disease and to fund Joseph's care and treatment.
There is a lot of research going on around the world to find a treatment or a cure. But there is still much more to be done. We are in a race against the clock, and we need everyone to be
a part of the team.
Please join us in our quest to help Joseph and so many other children like him. Our mission seems daunting at times, but we know that the cure may be just one more researcher, one more volunteer, one more caring group of people, or one more dollar away.
We will find a cure. Whatever it takes . . .

MEET JOSEPH
You're here on this page, reading about Joseph because he has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. But, shortly after he was diagnosed, we made a commitment that this disease would not define him. He is not just the boy with Muscular Dystrophy. He is so much more.
He is a son, a brother, a cousin, a friend. He is a grandson. He is a soccer-player, a snuggler, his dog's ball thrower, a butterfly chaser and a chocolate-chip-cookie-eater. He is a sand-castle builder and a sledding daredevil. He is a reader, a dreamer, and a hugger. He is funny and charming and compassionate. He is a singer, a laugher, a guitar-player, a joke teller. He is just Joseph.

When Joseph was diagnosed with DMD, our daughter asked if people would treat us differently when they found out. I instantly told her "yes, people will treat us BETTER." On every step of this journey I've been proven right. We've experienced love and developed friendships that we couldn't have imagined were possible. Joseph is surrounded by an army of angels. Since Joseph's diagnosis, we've been surrounded by the support and generosity of family and friends. Our army of volunteers is what allows us to move forward with our goals and to carry the belief that a cure is within reach. We've drawn the circle of our family much larger and we invite you to be a part of it.
